LG unveiled webOS Auto back in September last year, having partnered with Microsoft. Today the company brought in two more partners – Cerence and Luxoft – to strengthen its In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system.
Cerence is a spin-off from Nuance, a long-time player in voice recognition, which powered Siri prior to iOS 11. The goal of this partnership, naturally, is to build a new voice assistant based on the Cerence ARK (AI Reference Kit).
The assistant will be able to control various car functions, anything from the multimedia to navigation. LG and Cerence will provide a pre-packaged solution for OEMs and Tier 1 manufacturers.
The partnership with Luxoft will focus on enhancing webOS Auto with features for a digital cockpit, IVI, rear-seat entertainment and ride-hailing systems. LG is targeting ride-sharing and e-hailing companies, as well as fleet operators and carmakers in general.
LG previously pulled Qualcomm and Volkswagen into its webOS Auto project, along with Here and Mapbox, iHeart Radio and Sony Pictures and others.
Stil it takes many many years when the car without driver will drive as acurately as a human can do or a KITT did in Knightrider series.
