Leak: the Sony WF-1000XM4 will have better ANC, LDAC support and longer battery life

The upcoming Sony WF-1000XM4 TWS headset will have active noise cancellation (ANC), not surprising considering that the current XM3 model has it too. The interesting part here is that this feature will be enabled by a custom chip called “Sony V1”, which will deliver an even more effective ANC, according to WinFuture.

This won’t be Sony’s first custom chip, of course, but compared to the QN1e found inside the current XM3 buds, this one will add support for high-quality wireless audio transmitted using LDAC. The buds will also be Hi-Res Audio certified.

The battery life will be much improved on the WF-1000XM4 too. The buds alone will be able to last up to 8 hours of music playback with ANC on, up from 6 hours on the previous model. The carrying case and recharge the buds twice, giving a total of 24 hours of playback. If you switch ANC off, you will get 12 hours out of the buds and a total of 36 hours with the case.

The carrying case will be easier to charge too, with Qi wireless charging in addition to the USB-C port. This means you can top up the case with reverse wireless charging, assuming your phone supports it (and the Xperia 1 III does, by the way).

Anyway, the new buds will also have an IPX4 certification, which will make them rain-proof (whereas the XM3 are not). Also, the Precise Voice Pickup feature that significantly improved the in-call audio quality on the over-ear WH-1000XM4 will be present in the TWS headset too.

Sony should be unveiling the WF-1000XM4 soon and it will reportedly stick a €280 price tag on them in Europe (give or take a few euro, depending on where you buy them). This is a bit more than the XM3 model cost at launch, €250.
