Often reliable KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a memo to investors that it is highly unlikely that Apple will integrate a 7P (seven-lens plastic array) or 2G3P (two glass, three plastic) design in the iPhone X successor's camera. His statement is based mainly on the fact that Apple has the most advanced camera platform right now with the 6P design.
The current camera specs help the iPhone X to “strike a phenomenal balance between picture quality and form factor design”, says Kuo. Switching to a new design might improve aperture performance, and that’s it.
Another reason that Apple will not introduce a new design is an inevitable delay in delivery due to manufacturing issues. This is a step Cupertino is unwilling to take, having learned valuable lessons from the iPhone X supply issues.
The dual-lens design with wide-angle camera & a telephoto module was introduced in the iPhone 7 Plus and was carried over to the iPhone 8 Plus in 2017. The iPhone X added a faster f/2.4 aperture and OIS on its telephoto module, making it the most advanced camera by Apple so far.
He is working undercover for Apple to reveal the risky approaches and evaluate the consumer's reactions, like if we do that, do you like it, would you buy it?
