Apple iOS

iPhones have never traditionally broken sales records in India because they're quite expensive, and this latest development isn't helping the situation one bit.

The Indian government has now re-imposed a 10% service welfare tax on top of the existing basic 20% import duty. Thus, Apple has swiftly upped the prices for the devices it sells in the subcontinent that it doesn't make there.

Affected are the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The iPhone 7 and iPhone XR are currently assembled in India so don't see a hike, whole the iPhone 11 and iPad have been granted an exception.

The highest price increase is 1.5% for the iPhone 8 64GB, which goes from INR 39,900 to INR 40,500. The handy table above gives you details on all of the hikes that are implemented as of March 2. These are the recommended prices, mind you, and it's possible that some third party retailers might offer cheaper rates.
