Apple iOS

As you undoubtedly know, Apple announced three new iPhones today, direct successors to last year's models. The naming scheme has changed yet again so now we have the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

In the US, the iPhone 11 will start $50 lower than its predecessor, the iPhone XR, while the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max will have identical introductory pricing to the models they're replacing - the iPhone XS and XS Max, respectively. Let's see how things compare, price-wise, across the world though, because as usual the exchange rates Apple uses aren't what you'd call straight-up, from currency to currency.

iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max pricing roundup

Here's what the base 64GB models will cost you depending on where you live.

Country iPhone 11 iPhone 11 Pro iPhone 11 Pro Max
US $699 $999 $1,099
Canada CAD 979 CAD 1,379 CAD 1,519
Australia AUD 1,199 AUD 1,749 AUD 1,899
Germany €799 €1,149 €1,249
Italy €839 €1,189 €1,289
UK £729 £1,049 £1,149
Russia RUB 59,990 RUB 89,990 RUB 99,990
UAE AED 2,949 AED 4,219 AED 4,639
Hong Kong HKD 5,999 HKD 8,599 HKD 9,499

Despite what the pricing situation (compared to the 2018 models) in the US might imply, there are a lot of small price hikes elsewhere, even if not necessarily for all models in the same country.

The new iPhones should become available to pre-order in all of these places on September 13, and ship on September 20.

iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max pricing roundup

In the US, jumping from the base 64GB of storage to 128GB on the iPhone 11 costs $50, while going from 128GB to 256GB is $100 on top of that. For the Pro models it costs $150 extra to go from 64GB to 256GB, and $200 from 256GB to 512GB.

Across the big pond in the UK, £150 extra will take your iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max from 64GB to 256GB, and you need to shell out £200 on top of that to go for the 512GB model. The iPhone 11 requires £50 more to go from 64GB to 128GB, and £100 on top of that if you need 256GB of storage.

In the Eurozone, it's an additional €50 on top of the base price to grab a 128GB iPhone 11, and €120 more than that to get one with 256GB. The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max jump from 64GB to 256GB for an extra €170, while to go from 256GB to 512GB will cost you another €230.

They are a business, and they set prices by what they think the market will bear; they don't require a justification. If it's too high, sales will suffer. If it's too low, potential profit will be forfeit. What is the justification for the pri...
