Apple iPadOS Rumors

Apple doesn't often have problems with its software update rollouts, even though it's making them available to all devices at the same time and not releasing them in stages like other companies do. But when it does run into issues, rarely as that may be, said issues are big.

Case in point: MacRumors is reporting that the rollout of iPadOS 18 for the M4 iPad Pro, which started yesterday, has now been halted by Apple due to multiple reports of bricked iPads following the update.

Bricking means the device is no longer functional, so obviously this is as bad a situation as can be. Some people have taken to Reddit to voice their frustration, detailing how there was an interruption in the installation process leading to iPads that just wouldn't turn on anymore. Affected users needed to get a replacement iPad, as no servicing was possible.

Of course this is only a handful of people encountering these issues, but it's 'better safe than sorry' for Apple in this case, hence why it's currently stopped the rollout. The issue people encountered with the M4 iPad Pro may have been linked to installing the iPadOS 17.7 update first, before then going to iPadOS 18. That's just speculation, however. Hopefully Apple will get to the bottom of things very soon and resume the rollout.

Bricking means making inoperable. As if you turned your device into a brick.
