Insider reveals Samsung's plans to completely overhaul One UI 10

Samsung Android Rumors

A source close to Nokia Power User claims that Samsung is planning a complete overhaul of One UI and a major shift in overall philosophy. In fact, the Korean tech giant is looking into various ways to innovate in the space and potentially change the way Galaxy users interact with the software. The claims are partially corroborated by renowned Samsung tipster Ice Universe.

My independent source has confirmed: One UI 10 will bring about significant changes, unprecedented in nature.

The last time Samsung introduced a major overhaul of its custom Android skin was nine generations ago when One UI was born. And in more recent years, Samsung's upgrades became even more predictable. We've only seen small UI retouches and steady development of AI capabilities and features. But with One UI 10, the company plans to bring new excitement to its user base.

According to the trusted insider, we will see a major shift in philosophy, not just new features and looks, but three big changes. The first one revolves around the way we use apps. Samsung will prioritize Contextual Flow over traditional App Silos. That means users won't be forced to jump around different apps to complete basic tasks and instead, One UI 10 will merge the data organically in a single viewpoint. We are talking calendar entries, location insights, communications, etc. It all sounds like the current Now Nudge feature on steroids.

Secondly, One UI 10 will try to reduce "cognitive load" by removing unnecessary taps, hidden menus, or layers. No matter the task or what you are looking for, the process should feel more fluid without dead-ends.

Thirdly, Samsung will work toward a more unified ecosystem by improving the cross-device handoffs between smartphones, tablets and wearables.

Another interesting aspect of Samsung's shift in philosophy is, of course, AI. With growing demand for on-board computing and hybrid AI processing, Samsung is already feeling the pressure to monetize. All that computing power comes at a cost, after all. As a result, Samsung might introduce a two-tier model - the core, everyday functionalities will remain free, but specialized, high-compute third-party integrations and advanced processing tools may be put behind a subscription paywall.

With those ambitious changes in mind, Samsung will likely struggle to deliver its next-generation OS in time for the Galaxy Z Fold9 and Z Flip9 (if we ever get a Flip next year at all), so the generational upgrade will likely be scheduled for the Galaxy S29 series release, which coincidentally will fall in line with One UI's tenth anniversary.

We won't be caught off-guard, though, as the insider says that Samsung will push early developer previews long before the final version of the software launches. Additionally, the source advises against holding off hardware upgrades solely because of One UI 10. Samsung's long-term software support strategy guarantees that One UI 10 and its features will work flawlessly on the recent Galaxy S and foldable Z flagships.

I love how Samsung always changes things just outside of the "window" I happen to have. After buying S23 Ultra, they changed updates from just 4 years to 7 years with S24 series. S23 Ultra just received its last OneUI 9 update and just with...
