Huawei will unveil two new tablets on Tuesday next week (August 6), the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 and the Huawei MatePad Air 12. Official details are a bit scarce right now, though.

Here are the images that were used to tease the new tablets:

Note that the company already has a few recent Pro tablets. The Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 (2023), for example, has a notch for the dual front-facing camera (13MP wide and 8MP ultra wide). There’s also the Huawei MatePad Pro 11 (2024) with a punch hole camera in the corner. The new Pro model doesn’t use either design – in fact, we can’t see the front-facing camera at all, so it’s either disguised in the bezel or it’s under the display.

As for the Air, the Huawei MatePad Air (2023) features a different camera design from the one seen above, with two lenses on the back instead of just one.

Executive Director Richard Yu posted this image on Weibo. It was drawn using the new Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 and the stable version of the GoPaint app, which will also be released on August 6. Yu promises major improvements and optimizations from the original public beta of the app. The app supports air gestures with the stylus that you see tucked into the keyboard cover.

This is it for the official info we have, but a few months ago leaks suggested that the MatePad Pro 12.2 could use the Kirin 9010 chipset and feature 100W charging. The MatePad Air 12 will support 66W charging instead (chipset unknown).

The Pro model could feature satellite SMS functionality, just like the MatePad Pro 11 (2024). Both the Pro and Air models are said to support NearLink, which is a short-range wireless communication technology. This was introduced on the Huawei Mate 60 series and is also featured on the Pura 70 series. Some buds and styluses support it too, this is a replacement for Bluetooth (a Low Energy mode offers 12Mbps at less than 2mA power consumption) and Wi-Fi (Basic mode goes up to 1.2Gbps).
