Last month Huawei unveiled the MateBook D 16 and MateBook 16s with 12th generation Intel processors. That was just for China, but Huawei has plans to sell those two in Europe as well.
The two laptops were shown off at an event in Istanbul, Turkey. They were joined by the foldable flagship Huawei Mate Xs 2, the newly announced phone Huawei nova Y90 and the Y70 (which was previously unveiled). The 10.3” e-ink tablet, the Huawei MatePad Paper, was demoed as well (if that sounds interesting, check out our review).
Back to the laptops. The pair of 16” Windows 11 machines will be available in Europe soon, but we’re still waiting on Huawei to release pricing information and more concrete launch details.
The Huawei MateBook D 16 has an aluminum body that measures 18.4mm thick and weighs 1.7kg (3.75lbs), that’s not much for a 16” laptop. It has a 16:10 IPS LCD (1,920 x 1,200px, 142ppi) resolution and promises an impressive image quality with 100% sRGB coverage, 1,200:1 contrast ratio and 300 nits of brightness.
The Huawei MateBook D 16 is coming to Europe
There are two choices for processor – the Intel Core i5-12450H or the Core i7-12700H. The former has UHD Graphics (48 EU, 1.2GHz), the latter features the more capable Iris Xe graphics (96 EU, 1.4GHz). There is no option for dedicated graphics.
You can configure the laptop with 8 or 16GB of RAM, storage is fixed at 512GB (NVMe SSD). The laptop has a 60Wh battery and two USB-C ports that can be used for charging (one also does DisplayPort). Additionally, there is a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, a USB 2.0, an HDMI port and a 3.5mm combo headphones plus mic jack. The MateBook D 16 ships with the necessary 65W power adapter and USB cable.
Note: there is an AMD-powered version of the MateBook D 16 (Ryzen 4600H), but today’s event was focused on the Intel-powered model.
The Huawei MateBook 16s is another 16” laptop, although the display on this one has 3:2 aspect ratio (2,520 x 1,680px resolution). It is still an IPS LCD with 100% sRGB coverage, even better it offers higher contrast at (1,500:1) and factory calibration with average deltaE of less that 1 (i.e. as good as can be).
This one is also powered by 12th generation Intel processors from the H-series, meaning 40W TDP. You can have it with dual-channel RAM and an NVMe SSD as well.
the 4000 series is now 2 gens old, not worth it unless it's really really cheap... I mean around 500 usd cheap
I bought one of these two years ago, the USBC charging port stopped working, and it is now impossible to find warranty or spare parts to fix it in my country. Do your research, and beware they don't honor service and support out of their network...
