was your phone stuck on emergency backup mode? and after doing a reball on the cpu did the phone return to its normal working state with all of it's data back or was some stuff missing?
This phone did me so well.
Moving from an iPhone, this phone was a bless! Stunning photos, beautiful graphics and decent battery life. The absolute best was the remote control feature that truly made it stand out. Being able to control a TV 3 times older than the phone was at first mind blowing but a very useful thing to have.
Thank you for this Huawei, you did good.

Reportedly, it failed at the same time as cpu did, which is a bit wierd to me. They refunded 35 euros. Maybe they could have damaged it during reball. Nonetheless the phone served well and for a long time.

November 11 of last year made it 7 years since I got it so it's approaching 8 years in four months. I still use it but for light things. I still have the original battery just like you and the original charger. The screen is still in perfect condition but the volume buttons are stiff and no press in them. The SIM slot is apparently dead as SIM cards no longer work in the phone...but as you said, anything is liable to happen after 7 years. My P9 Plus was never subjected to any kind of abuse and the cosmetic condition is perfect. I have always said that Huawei makes the strongest smartphones. Huawei reminds me of Nokia back in the solid days of the 3310 etc. If only Huawei could have kept Google and Google services then they would probably be on top of the entire market right now. I respect Huawei for their reliability, durability and longevity.
This thing is a beast, it may be old but you can get it for dirt cheap you getting a good camera, good screen and good gaming performance, this thing is smoother than iphone 16

Everything else seems to be working.

tell the guy at the phone service to put some heat on the processor chip to kind of re-solder it back again, it might work and bring back your mate 20 pro
best of luck
Best phone I ever had. Lasted 7 years without a single settback. Surprisingly even the battery life was fine for its age, I would think it was better than much newer iphones, and fast charging did the trick, even without fast charging cable it charged pretty fast. The Kirin 980 was strong even after those years, managing heavy multitasking and relatively fast for day to day use.
Sadly the phone turned off few weeks ago and red led started flashing, not booting, changing battery didnt help, repair shop told me it's something to do with the CPU, tried to fix it unfortunately with no luck, they will try second time and we'll see.
Nonetheless truly remarkable phone, I would keep it for longer if I could, 7 years is a long time tho, I guess anything could break after those years if I were to use it for longer, especially components directly on the board. The phone did it's job, and didn't disappoint. Would stay loyal to Huawei even after sanctions for this.
It's crazy. Its now 2025 and the phone still havent given up. It still works great and I actually prefer this over most mid-range phone in 2025.

I bought mine early 2019.Still going strong. I am really having trouble finding a new phone. Any recommendations?
Original-Jamaican, 05 Feb 2025Do you still have Android on yours or it has upgraded to Harmony OS?Still Android (EMUI 12)
Have had mine since 2019 never changed batteries only issues I'm having are sticky buttons but all is Well
Mine works 5,5 years now... I only changed the battery (original one), but the new one doesn't hold like the old one in the beginning. I really don't have the need to buy new phone.
Got it 1/2019 ,it's working flawless. The best device ever
