David 040882, 03 Aug 2024Heard different statements from other people and users who imported smartphones from China, bu... morei imported a meizu 20 classic to the uk earlier this year for £350 as an upgrade from a huawei p30, so far it's been stellar to use and has regular updates - i'm currently on flyme 11.0.0.0A which came out less than a week ago.
my 3 network smarty works without any issues for things like 5g data, messages and calls and google services also work as normal, all i did was enable the support option in the settings menu and download/install 2 google framework apks then all of my usual apps were running well like starling, youtube, petal maps, whatsapp, spotify, instagram, yandex browser, waterstones, steam etc..
the only way you can tell it is a chinese rom is that a small few descriptions and changelogs remain in chinese and that you also have access to the vast amount of chinese apps like douyin, weibo, bilibili, xiaohongshu etc.
my number is also tied to my meizu.cn account and there is nothing blocked, granted it was a little more effort than buying native but there's nothing actually preventing the use of them outside of the region.
