Introduction

The Honor Magic7 Pro has been official in China for a few months and now the world gets in on the action. The versatile camera setup, the latest high-end chipset, and the hot new IP rating are probably going to be the key selling points, but are the upgrades enough? Let's try and find out.

For starters, the camera system is looking very much unchanged compared to last year. That's not a bad thing in and of itself though - the 200MP telephoto camera on the back is always going to be appealing, and the high-res selfie camera with AF isn't anywhere as common as it should be.

The Magic7 Pro gets a chipset upgrade, of course, and it relies on the Snapdragon 8 Elite, as do a lot of its competitors. And, as do a lot of its competitors, it features an IP68/IP69 rating - not only can you submerge it, but also pressure wash it at high temperatures (sort of). So not strictly standout features, but the Magic lineup is keeping up with the times.

Honor Magic7 Pro review

Among the silicon carbon battery pioneers, Honor has fitted one on the Magic7 Pro as well, albeit with a somewhat bizarre regional differentiation in capacity. We get the short end of the stick around our parts of the world, so in a way whatever battery life we get out of the Magic7 Pro should be a worst case scenario.

There are small goodies on board too, at least one of them almost exclusive to the Magic - the 3D face unlock. We've got a feeling that the speakers might also be louder than usual (sometimes the Intro page gets written after getting all the tests done), and we're also seeing a (welcome) shift from optical to ultrasonic fingerprint recognition. There's an infrared emitter too - that never hurts.

Honor Magic7 Pro unboxing

We're steadily approaching a state when this section will become redundant because of the ever shrinking in-box contents, but here it goes. The Magic7 Pro, at least in our Euro spec, comes with just a cable included - no charger, no case. The situation may be different where you are.

Honor Magic7 Pro review

To be fair, the Magic6 Pro last year already came without an adapter - even before the EU regulations made that the norm. Honor chose not to bundle one - they weren't forced to. We wonder if any of that still matters though, since that's been an ongoing trend for several years now.
