Anonymous, 21 Jan 2025I had to Google this and yes this is true! WTF!! Why can't they offer 5 yrs for normal co... moreSadly hmd lost some grownd instead of winning... they are not even close to the big players when it comes to pricing and manufacturing capabilities, they just can't compete at that level. If they try to sell cheap with 5 years of support, they'd probably go insolvent in about a year, if they don't raise the price. But if they do raise the price, to be able to support a device for 5 years, probably way less people then they would need to survive, would buy. Businisses do not care that much about the 50 euros extra per device, or maybe 100, as long as they get a bloatware free device with good quality calling capabilities, repairable and security updates for longer, businesses have totaly different needs in comparison to normal customers. That might be one of the reasons. Another reason would be competition and pricing again. The big players have enough money to buy in bulk, thos giving them the advantage over price, because bulk is always cheapper, the more you buy, the cheapper it gets. Also, most of the big players, like samsung or xiaomi make money with a tone of bloatware in each and every device sold, and some brands even have their own manufacturing plants cutting some costs. Add to this the fact that most of them manufactures sell other stuff as well, so their busnisses support eachother in times where maybe smartphones are receiving a downgrade in sales, which hapes often, especially now, when more and more manufactureres offer more years of support. All this factors kill small companies like hmd, sadly... they have no time to reinvent, and have no proper loophole to take advantage and attract some new users towards them. So they actively reinvent themselves while still trying to remain relevant on the market releasing devices like skyline with the best support and hardware they got at this time, with this money. Anyway the moral of the story is, hmd cannot compete with chinese companies nor with the big players, because that is just imposible to do and will kill their business, and they cannot go fairphone route because fairphone is way ahead and there is a very niche market for such devices, so hmd won't survive there either. Because they still try to find the right market for their devices, untill they do it, they just release devices to keep them alive in the process. I find repairability a very important stept forward, but well, as we can all see, people care more about bloatware and paper specs then anything else, so this too might not be the end of "reinvation" for hmd. Even tough i said i won't buy this because of the shor 3 years security support, i might actually do, because i do not want to be left with chinese manufactures vs samsung on the non-niche market of fairphones or shifphones. But well, only i won't do much to help them...

And it has also come to a point where replacing your phone after 3 years is more economical than trying to prolong an ancient hardware with no local parts avialable.
Have always appreciated the reviews given for various models and brands of cellphones given by GSMArena. The Skyline cellphone met all my needs and was ready to purchase one. The negative side was when they had over a $100.00 difference because of colors. For my own personal reasons I feel I will not be put into a spot where whoever controls the sales is going to push off drastic differences in price because of color or perhaps inventory control of what they or whomever controls it. That is total B.S. End of story simply because the color a person chooses is their choice and business practices should make a full disclosure of such drastic price differences concerning color choice. This will certainly affect a persons decision to purchase or not. 100% unwise when marketing a product. In this case I chose not to purchase because of severe bad marketing practices. Oh well...

Anonymous, 11 Jan 2025HMD is killing this phone with bad software update policy & ridiculous pricing! The pricing is ok now, it dropped significantly and you could get it for almost half of the original price when you look carefully. With that price I would recommend the phone despite the meager software support.

The phone is for people who have uses for it after the life ends and are willing to tinker with it, yes it might last longer with hardware changes but those willing to buy the next big thing will not buy it for that reason and that might not let it grow as a business, hope it grows as the idea is in a better direction but the execution will require more efforts to perfect, for now only a niche audience
Too much expensive!,so what if you can remove the back cover easily?just because of that doesnt mean u will charge more than what it should be.

The GSM Arena specifications page doesn't specify whether this phone has an internal DAC for wired earphones. Anyone know if it does?
