Huawei unveiled the Mate 70 Air around one year ago as its entry into the 'thin smartphone' segment, and while its successor has been rumored for a while now, it's still nowhere to be seen. Today, a tipster on Weibo claims the Mate 80 Air will launch next month.
The same tipster also says the MatePad Mini's successor, the MatePad Mini 2, won't be launched alongside the handset, even though it may also be released in December, despite earlier rumors claiming it would be coming this month. The tablet should run HarmonyOS 7 from day one.
As for what to expect from the Mate 80 Air, another tipster said a few days ago that an upcoming Air device in the Mate series will launch within the next two months, start with 12GB of RAM, and keep its predecessor's circular camera island. A previous leak also claimed that 3D face recognition will still be missing on the new Air.
The Mate 70 Air is 6.6mm thin, which is one of its main selling points. Whether its successor will be even thinner remains to be seen. Some rumors have claimed it would go thinner, for what it’s worth. The Mate 80 Air is expected to be powered by the Kirin 9030 chipset and to have a curved screen.
