Google announces $800+ million commitment towards COVID-19 relief efforts

Google has committed $250 million in ad grants to help the World Health Organization (WHO) and 100+ government agencies across the globe provide information on preventing COVID-19 spread. Additionally, the company is providing $20 million in ad credits to NGOs and community financial institutions to help them run announcements on relief funds.

Here's the rest of the breakdown of Google's $800+ million funds:

  • $200 million investment fund for NGOs and financial institutions to help SMBs.
  • $340 million worth of Google Ads credits for SMBs having accounts that have been active over the past year. The credits will be usable until the end of this year.
  • $20 million worth of Google Cloud credits for academic institutions and researchers who are finding ways to combat COVID-19.

Google will also provide financial support and expertise to help increase the production of personal protective equipment and lifesaving medical devices. These efforts will be facilitated by employees from Google, Verily, and X.

The internet search giant is also working with Magid Glove & Safety for the production of 2-3 million masks which will be provided to the CDC Foundation.

Apart from this, Google has increased the annual gift match amount for its employees from $7,500 to $10,000, which can be donated to organizations in their communities.
