DJI’s Mavic strikes a great balance between pro and enthusiast needs and it just got a lot better. The DJI Mavic 2 brings a major split: a big sensor or optical zoom.
Mavic 2 Pro
This drone boasts a Hasselblad co-designed 1” sensor – that’s the same size as the sensors in the Phantom 4 Pro drone or the Sony RX100 point and shoot. The imager has 20MP resolution and an adjustable f/2.8 to f/11 aperture. It can shoot 10-bit HDR and 10-bit Dlog-M video natively.
In short, can handle any lighting condition and come up with incredible video quality. It boasts Hasselblad Natural Color Solution, great dynamic range thanks to the 10-bit support and the ability to handle both sun-drenched scenes and low-light locales.
The Mavic 2 Pro can record up to 4K at 30fps video at 100Mbps. It can stay in the air for up to 31 minutes and fly at a whopping 72km/h. It can go up to 6km altitude and resist up to 38km/h winds.
Mavic 2 Zoom
This one sticks to a 1/2.3” 12MP sensor, but it learned a new trick – 2x optical zoom. That’s 24-48mm in 35mm equivalent. DJI also promises 4x “lossless zoom” with some digital processing. Just wait until you see the automatic dolly zoom.
If you’re into aerial photography more than videos, the Super Resolution mode will impress you. It uses the tele end of the lens (48mm) to shoot a photo with 24mm field of view, resulting in a detailed 48MP shot.
The new hybrid autofocus system is 40% faster than before. And it’s even easier to get the right shot with DJI OcuSync system, which transmits live 1080p footage to your phone.
Both DJI Mavic 2 drones feature 8GB of built-in storage. The card slot is still there, but this is good in case you forget your microSD in the card reader at home.
You can order either drone today – the Mavic 2 Pro will set you back $1,500, the Mavic 2 Zoom is $1,250.
