Counterpoint Research issued its aggregated report on the smartphone market in Q3 of this year a month ago, but now it's ready to share a some more detailed breakdowns and in somewhat prettier charts too.
The smartphone market is already recovering after the first wave of lockdowns and quarantine around the world - it recorded a 32% increase in shipments on a quarterly basis. Compared with Q3 2019, the decline is just 4% - that’s 366 million units.
Samsung managed to reach its highest number of shipments in the past three years, increasing its sales 48% from the previous quarter and 3% from the July-September period last year. Realme became the fastest company to reach 50 million shipments overall, while Apple suffered mostly due to pushing the iPhone launch to Q4 2020.
Looking at the region breakdown, Samsung is the only company to be in the Top 5 of each region, leading in three of them. Huawei is only doing well in Asia, its share plummeting elsewhere while Apple doesn't make the top 5 outside North America and Europe.

Counterpoint also revealed its analysis on the feature phone scene. Total shipments in Q3 2020 were 74 million, with iTel being first with 24%, followed by HMD, the owner of the Nokia brand. Third place is for another Transsion subsidiary Tecno that is mostly available in Sub-Saharan Africa.
