Samsung Android Rumors

We’ve been hearing a lot about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, but now its entire spec sheet leaked out – and it confirmed that major changes are coming. Samsung has rethought the floor plan of the device and while some features won’t change, the experience might be quite different.

Let’s start with the size. As you can see in the table below, the phone got a millimeter shorter and wider, but the aspect ratios of the two screens are more different than these measurements suggest. The important thing here is that the phone is thinner and lighter, which should make it feel closer to a traditional bar phone when folded.

Dimensions Galaxy Z Fold5 Galaxy Z Fold6
Folded Unfolded Folded Unfolded
Height 154.9mm 154.9mm 153.5mm 153.5mm
Width 67.1mm 129.9mm 68.1mm 132.6mm
Thickness 13.4mm 6.1mm 12.1mm 5.6mm
Weight 253g 239g

The cover display will be a 6.3” panel, now with 968 x 2,376px, which works out to a 22.1:9 aspect ratio, compared to the taller 23.1:9 of the old model. By the looks of it, it’s still a 120Hz LTPS panel.

The internal display has changed too – the 7.6” diagonal now spans 1,856 x 2,160px resolution instead of 1,812 x 2,176px. The new aspect ratio is 10.5:9, i.e. slightly closer to square than the 10.8:9 of last year’s Fold. This is also a 120Hz non-LTPO display.

The leaked specs don’t name the chipset explicitly (Samsung rarely does), but the octa-core CPU shows that this is a Snapdragon instead of an Exynos (which has a 10-core CPU). There’s no change in the RAM – only 12GB is listed – and the storage is 512GB.

The rest of the spec sheet doesn’t show many changes. The Galaxy Z Fold6 has a 4,400mAh battery (same as before). Charging speed is not listed, but we’re not expecting major changes on this front. The USB-C port is wired for USB 3.2 Gen 1. Additional connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 (ax), Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and UWB. And 5G, of course.

Finally, the cameras. The rear trio features a 50MP main (f/1.8, OIS, 8K @ 30fps video), 10MP 3x telephoto (also with OIS) and a 12MP ultra wide (120°). There are two selfie cameras: 10MP on the cover display and 4MP under the main display inside. In other words, this is pretty much exactly the same camera setup as on the Z Fold5.

Galaxy Z Fold6 camera details

As we heard a couple of days ago, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 will be $100 more expensive than its predecessor (in the US, other regions should see a similar bump in price). The official announcement is coming at the next Galaxy Unpacked event, which should be a couple of weeks before the Olympics.

Though I still prefer stock Android, I don't really see what's the problem with the Chinese software. ColorOS (and Realme UI and OxygenOS, even though I still prefer older OxygenOS) are getting prettier and more bugless nowadays. Feature-wi...
