Asus Android Announcement

Back in 2018, Asus decided to bring its ROG gaming brand to the smartphone realm and four years later we’re at ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro - the 2022 installments with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Like the previous ROG Phone generation the differences between the Pro and non-Pro model come down to RAM capacity and looks with the Pro getting up to 18GB RAM and a programmable color AMOLED display on the back.

Both ROG Phone 6 models bring 6.78-inch AMOLED displays with 1080 x 2448px resolution and 165Hz refresh rates. The touch sampling rate is now 720Hz while peak brightness now reaches 1200 nits in auto mode. Apart from the 165Hz mode, the display can be set to 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz or 144Hz depending on your preference. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is here to fend off scratches.

Both phones use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset with 12/16GB LPDDR5 RAM on the ROG Phone 6 and 18GB RAM on the ROG Phone 6 Pro. Storage is non-expandable and can be either 256GB or 512GB, always of the UFS 3.1 variety.

The cooling system is overhauled to hang with the new Snapdragon chipset and Asus claims it can lower the CPU temperature by up to 10°C.

Asus is bringing back its programmable AirTrigger ultrasonic buttons on the right-hand side and back of the phone allowing you to map your controls inside supported games. The phone also packs dual front-facing speakers, triple microphones, Dirac Virtuo spatial audio and a headphone jack. The phone is also IPX4 splash-resistant.

The camera department also received an update with a 50MP Sony IMX766 main shooter next to a 13MP ultrawide module and a 5MP macro cam. The selfie shooter is now a 12MP Sony IMX663.

ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro are still utilizing a 6,000mAh battery split into two 3,000mAh cells and you get dual USB-C ports - one on the bottom and another one on the side. Wired charging is still capped at 65W just like the ROG Phone 5 series. The software front is covered by Android 12 with ROG UI and Zen UI.
