Apple iOS WatchOS

Apple today announced that it is holding its next event on Wednesday, September 7 inside the company's Apple Park campus. The event will start at 10:00 AM PT and will be attended in-person as well as live streamed on the company's website and YouTube.

Being the September event, the focus would be on new iPhone models. New for this year is a a plus-sized iPhone 14 Plus/Max with essentially the same dimensions as the iPhone 14 Pro Max but with the feature-set of the iPhone 14. This model will replace the iPhone mini from the lineup.

The new iPhones are also expected to get an updated display with the pill-shaped cutout replacing the current notch. While the notch did see a size reduction last year, it continues to be fairly large and possibly the largest on any production phone today. The new pill-shaped design cuts down on the visual mass while still retaining all the sensors necessary for Face ID to work.

Also new for the iPhone this year would be an always-on display, although it is expected to only be available on the Pro models. Also rumored to be exclusive on the Pro models is the next generation A16 processor, with the standard models retaining the A15 from last year. The camera on the Pro models is also expected to go up to 48 megapixel. Meanwhile, all models will get a new autofocus front camera.

Launching alongside the new iPhones would be the next generation Apple Watch Series 8. It is expected to be available in a standard and a Pro variant, with the latter having a larger display, rugged titanium body, and shatter-resistant glass. The Pro model is also rumored to have a body temperature sensor.

It's possible Apple could also announce updated iPad Pro models but they are likely to be announced during the October event alongside any Mac updates.

Face ID is absolutely a much much better system. Those in-screen fingerprint sensors on current phones are terrible.
