Apple struggles with AI development in China
Apple Intelligence is not coming soon to iPhones in China, reports The Information. According to the report, Apple struggles to adapt Baidu's LLM (large language model) to understand prompts and provide accurate answers and actions in common scenarios.
Call summary, an Apple Intelligence feature
Apple launched iPhone 16 devices with the promise that they will get AI features in October with the iOS 18.1 update, only to backtrack later that its Apple Intelligence platform will be delayed in Europe and China.
The US company also faces another issue in China. Apple's privacy policy does not allow data collection from iPhone users who make AI-related queries. However, Baidu wants to save the data for "analyzing and improving its AI."
The model is Ernie 4.0, Baidu's most advanced model, and Apple wants to use it for generative AI on iPhones, Macs, and iPad devices. The plan is also to incorporate the LLM into Siri.

And yet the not so "Free World" buy more Chinese made iPhones than ever before. Bottom line... Cheaper prices count more than supposed politics. Regardless of their imagined politics, people want their iPhones. https://www.forbes.com/sit...
I didn't know about this guy until your comment. Now I've looked him up on Wikipedia. NGL, he sounds like a fascinating person!
Apple AND Baidu are both SUS. I would not trust either of them with AI technology.
