If you've been interested in the Alcatel Idol 4s but haven't picked one up so far, and if you also aren't at all interested in virtual reality, then this news is clearly for you. So far, Alcatel has sold the Idol 4s in the United States with a bundled VR headset, which was also the box the phone shipped in. An innovative take to bundling things, yes, but what if you don't actually want the headset? How much cost did that accessory add?
Well, we now know. From this point on you can purchase a version of the Idol 4s that doesn't come with the VR headset, nor the Incipio case. This model is up for grabs for just $349.99 unlocked, which is $50 less than the bundle deal is going for. So there you have it - the headset and case were around a $50 value after all.
Otherwise, what you're getting is the exact same smartphone - nothing has been changed, nothing has been altered about it. It just doesn't have those two accessories. The Idol 4s has a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED touchscreen, a 16 MP main camera, an 8 MP front camera with its own LED flash, JBL certified stereo front-facing speakers, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, and a 3,000 mAh battery. It runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
So now it's only overpriced by $50. Not horrible, but still nowhere near as a good a value as the $399 Axon 7.
